Do you know what’s great about the country we live in? Opportunity is present everywhere. You can do anything if you’re focused and willing enough. You can even get rich.

Getting and staying rich is not something reserved for the elites. You can improve your finances too, especially if you understand the following five money making secrets.

1. Get quick and easy out of your thoughts

We all dream of getting instantly rich, without having to do anything. But building wealth is not something you do over night. If you didn’t know it yet, getting rich quick schemes never work. What works, however, is being smart and working hard. And this way takes time. Once you understand this, you will be able to start building wealth.

2. Think like a rich person, not like a poor one

If you put off saving money or making smart investments until you until you get a better job, you will never do these things. What you need to do is to always look for opportunities, for ways to help transform your money into more money. Sometimes, saving money is enough. It may not turn you into a billionaire but it will allow you to have a peaceful retirement, which is something that you shouldn’t underestimate.

3. Time really is money

Rich people understand the value of time. That’s why they hire people to fulfill less important tasks. This allows them to focus and invest time on the things that really matter.

You may not be able to hire an assistant from the start, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t make the most of your time. If you’re good at something that can help you make money, focus on that. Stop wasting time with meetings, writing emails or other insignificant things.

4. Everything is an investment

This is how you have to see the world. We often think that the rich just throw money away on things they don’t really need. And it might be true, but there’s one big difference: the money they’re throwing away on useless stuff is just a small portion of their wealth. You, on the other hand, may not be able to afford buying an expensive car or home. So, rather than doing that, think about how you can make your money work for you.

But there’s another side to this secret as well. There is a huge difference between saving money in order to invest it at a later date, and being cheap. When you’re cheap, when you buy cheap stuff, you’re actually throwing money away. So don’t look to spend $10 on a pair of shoes that may last you three months, when you can spend $100 on a pair that will last you a few years. This is an investment in yourself.

5. Don’t rely on just one source of income

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with having a regular paycheck, but that’s not how rich people work. They have multiple sources of income, either from other businesses, or freelancing, or consulting.
